Job site puts pupils on the path to work with new initiative
Job site Foosle has set up an employment initiative with the Cavendish School in Hemel Hempstead and businesses from the area.
Sixth form students have been brushing up on their jobseeking skills by taking part in a one month employment programme in partnership with Foosle.com
Supported by national and local businesses and designed to improve students’ employability skills, the initiative included three different sessions:
As part of the initiative students worked on their CVs, learning how to differentiate them using social and video content.
In a second session they worked on interview preparation and how to make a good impression on employers, as well as career planning, job searching, covering letters and cleaning up their online profiles on Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin.
The programme culminated in the final workshop, Interview Day, where students were put to the test in mock interviews with 14 participating employers.
Sue Forde, head teacher at The Cavendish School said: “The students really valued the time and commitment that the companies gave to them – they were made to feel special and learnt important lessons in how to conduct themselves in job interviews.
“Working with Foosle gave them an insight into how searching for jobs can be both innovative and showed them how they can show-off their skills in a more personal way.”
Alistair Rennie, managing director of Foosle said: “Supporting students in this way is very important to us. After all, they will soon be young jobseekers fresh out of school so it was great to take part in helping them develop their skills and experience.”
Businesses that got involved included Sportspace, Henkel, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Rothamsted Research, Watford Palace Theatre, Pictons Solicitors, Job Centre (DWP), Paralogic, Freedom Communications, Marks & Spencer, Robsons and George Street Primary School.
