Elena Veris Reynolds, aged 16, who is part of the national Girlguiding youth advocacy panel, Advocate, represented the charity at the Million Women Rise march in central London on Saturday March 5.

The Advocate panel meet several times a year to discuss issues that matter to girls and young women and seek change.

Elena, who is a member of the Hemel Hempstead West district senior section, said: “I really enjoyed the march and found it very inspiring. Gathering with so many other people like that makes you feel you’re making a difference.”

To mark International Women’s Day on March 8, more than 1,000 members of Girlguiding’s senior section, including Elena, voted for the young women who inspire them most.

They include Pakistani human rights activist and Nobel Prizewinner Malala Yousafzai, aged 18; Mhairi Black, aged 21, the youngest MP elected to the House of Commons in almost 200 years; and British actor Emma Watson, aged 25, who launched gender equality campaign HeforShe as a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador.

Girlguiding is celebrating 100 years of the senior section this year and offering amazing opportunities to older girls in guiding – from international travel and adventure to advocacy and leadership skills.
