The skating stars initiative, funded by Planet Ice, took place at the Hemel ice rink, starting in March, when children and adults went through a selection day, to find an initial 15 students per category to take through the Skate Excellence Learn to Skate programme.

In August, the final five were selected to learn an individual programme which was delivered to a capacity audience at the Skating Stars Final Gala on Sunday October 9.

While the judges deliberated, exhibition skaters and previous winner and runner-up Grace Taylor and Lucy May Smith performed on the ice.
