Year 9 students at Tring School were ‘held spell-bound’ by her moving story which highlighted ‘the cruel side of human nature but also the glow of hope and goodness within the human spirit’.

Millan was born into a Jewish family in Berlin in the early 1940s before being moved to the Theresienstadt concentration camp near Prague, where she was orphaned.

When she was three, the camp was liberated in 1945 by the Russians and she was given up for adoption in the UK.

She has lived here ever since, having children of her own, while working tirelessly to discover the remnants of her extended family.

Millan answered lots of questions from the pupils who listened attentively to her stories.
