He’s robot danced at the top of Africa’s highest mountain and he wants your money...

A man who has become well-known for his robot dances at an annual charity concert has performed them at the top of Africa’s highest mountain for the good cause.

Simon Moran has been a loyal supporter and performer in the Pepper Foundation concerts held in Berkhamsted, which raise funds for nurses to support terminally ill children.

He was a member of local band ‘Charlie’s Brother’ back in the mid 80’s. He appeared in the first Pepper Show 26 years ago as his alter-ego Trax the Robot.

Appearing in most of the shows he went on to become known as The Pepper Robot as a pre-show warm up act in the event.

In later years, he has also got involved in teaching and working with Pepper Youth.

He would walk Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and upon arrival at the mountain summit – if he raised enough sponsorship – he would perform robotics there.

Mount Kilimanjaro is just under 6,000 metres (19,000 feet) tall. It is a tough mountain to climb due to the increased issues of high altitude and a loss in Oxygen as you gain height.

With some friends he joined an organised group and followed the Lemosho route of five days to get to the base of the summit.

Then setting off at 11:30pm he climbed the next 1200m reaching the summit on the Thursday, September 25, by 7:30am as the sun was rising.

He said: “Luckily I did not feel too many effects of the altitude so was able to perform on reaching the top.

“I was very lucky with the weather as it can often be very clouded, very windy and anywhere between -5 to -20 centigrade but on this morning it was clear and sunny.”
