TEN athletes from Hemel’s Seishinkai Shotokan Karate International represented England in the World Karate Championships at the weekend.

The competition, held in Lons Le Saunier in France, pitted England against 35 other countries.

And despite the tough competition, Hemel’s representatives came away with four medals.

Rachael Houlton won bronze in the ladies under 55kg free-fighting event, as well as a bronze in the team event with partner Teiki Benveniste.

Fifteen-year-old Leah Groom also won a bronze, finishing third in the girls’ free-fighting event.
