Flower Pots Day Nursery is run by Brian and Madeleine Whitlock – parents of Hemel’s gold medal winning Olympic hero Max Whitlock.

The nursery was graded as outstanding in each of the four key criteria, including teaching, leadership, behaviour of pupils and the outcomes for its children.

It is one of two nurseries the couple own, with the other located in Adeyfield, which recently scored a ‘good’ rating.

The Ofsted report into the Apsley branch of Flower Pots praised the “truly inspirational” management team.

Inspector Michelle Baldock found during the February inspection that “very high expectations motivate staff to continue to provide the highest quality of teaching.”

She also praised the close “partnership” between staff and parents.
