Health services to be cut by £7.7million over next five years

Health bosses have warned of further cuts coming to services across Herts.

The county council’s public health department will have to find £7.734million of savings over the next five years, a 15.6 per cent cut.

Although it is claimed that most cuts will be to back office functions, the council had admitted that some public services will have to be changed too.

Councillor Teresa Heritage, cabinet member for public health, localism and libraries, said: “In Hertfordshire we are committed to delivering services that keep residents healthy and safe whilst providing value for money, and this is more important than ever in the current financial climate.

“We know that being healthy has a considerable effect on the happiness and life chances of our residents. Through innovation, strong partnerships and early intervention we will continue to promote good health and encourage people to adopt healthy behaviours in order to reduce poor health in later life and protect the public purse in the long-term.”
