A Hemel Hempstead grandmother is preparing to say goodbye to her luxuriant locks, in aid of the special school which her grandson attends.
Brave Barbara Sheldon, aged 44, is having her entire head of hair shaved off in public, to help raise funds for a new hydrotherapy pool at Hemel’s Woodfield School.
The head shave is set to be carried out in public at the school’s fundraising Woodfield Fest, on September 17.
Barbara’s grandson, Archie, aged six, who has severe developmental delays, is a pupil at Woodfield School.
Barbara said: “Due to the care of all the dedicated staff there, he has come on in leaps and bounds.
“Archie has quite severe learning disabilities but he is a truly happy little dude.
“He is achieving new things all the time.
“One thing he really loves is swimming.
“At present, Woodfield are trying to raise money for a new hydrotherapy pool.
“This is just a small thing that I can do to try and help them achieve their goal.
“My hair will grow back. The majority of the children at this school will face challenges for their whole lives.”
Barbara has already raised £470 via her fundraising page at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Barbara-Sheldon1
