Planet Ice at the former Leisure World site was saved from its D-day closure date of October 2013 by investment from Dacorum Borough Council and the Tesco Pension Fund.

Now, after a revamp totalling £800,000, the leisure and sporting venue is offering an array of skating sessions and tuition for all abilities.

Jenny Buck, head of property Iinvestment at Tesco Pension Fund, said: “The opening of Planet Ice is the culmination of a huge amount of work that has gone into regenerating this leisure facility. We are delighted to have created a family leisure facility including restaurants, a gym, cinema and ice-rink for the community to enjoy which we anticipate will also attract new visitors from across Hertfordshire.”

Council leader Andrew Williams said: “I am delighted that, through our work with Tesco Pension Fund, we have managed to keep an excellent facility for ice skating in Hertfordshire. This is another example of our commitment to improving the area and making it an even better place to live, work, and visit.”

A new website has also been launched to promote the new and improved leisure and dining venues at the former Leisure World site.

Now re-established as Jarman Square, the destination features an array of new restaurants with a family-friendly pub and gym soon to join them. The existing cinema and ice rink also remain.
