On November 1, Berkhamsted Baptist Church members Lydia Carmichael and John Carter dressed in 1640s costunes to welcome people to a special thanksgiving service and lunch to mark the milestone.

The service, attended by the town’s Mayor Tom Ritchie and his wife, was led by Rev Stephen Ashby and the address was given by Rev David Coffey OBE.

Berkhamsted Baptist Church, in High Street, was co-founded by Thomas Monk, who was saved from execution for absenting himself from parish church worship and failing to baptise his four children, when King Charles II stepped in to stop the death sentence.
