Flag is raised outside Civic Centre to mark Commonwealth Day

This morning a flag raising ceremony was held outside the Civic Centre in Hemel Hempstead to mark Commonwealth Day 2015.

Today, more than 730 Commonwealth flags will be raised at locations across the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK Overseas Territories and Commonwealth countries to celebrate the Commonwealth as a growing multi-cultural world seeking unity, understanding and tolerance.

Dacorum Mayor Allan Lawson led the ceremony in Hemel Hempstead, which saw the flag raised at 10am.

A special message of good wishes from The Queen was read out, followed by a message from The Commonwealth secretary-general and Mr Lawson then read the Commonwealth Affirmation.

The Commonwealth is a voluntary association of 53 sovereign states.
