Family fun and reunion at football club's big day

A local football club is hoping for a big reunion of past and present players at a Family Day on Sunday, May 8.

Founded in 1972, Landrovers FC is celebrating 44 years of success with a fun family event starting at noon at Tring Corinthians Football Ground.

The day will include an all-day football match where former and current players will battle it out for the ultimate team status.

Other entertainment will include a barbecue, bouncy castle, craft stalls, face paints, Splat the Rat, tombola, cake stall, cream teas and a bar.

The event will also celebrate the retirement from football of the longest-serving player in the Berkhamsted Sunday League, Russell Hatt, aged 57, from Hemel.

Russell, who joined the club in 1977, has played for Landrovers FC’s Berkhamsted League for 39 consecutive years in the same team.

He is organising the football part of the day, and his daughter Alex, aged 21, who is studying for a degree in Sports and Exercise Science, is organising the entertainment.

Alex said: “The club has spanned over four decades and we felt that it would be a good opportunity to bring everyone back together.”

They have contacted as many former and current players as possible, but would welcome being put in touch with any others they have lost touch with.

The founder of the club, Chris Weaver, who now lives in Germany, will be coming over for the event.

The Family Day is being run as a fundraiser for the Epilepsy Society.

Alex, who is in her third year at Loughborough University, took up the challenge to raise £3,000 pounds for the Epilepsy Society along with 30 other students, after visiting the society’s headquarters in Chalfont St Peter.

In August, the students will be trekking through the Peruvian Andes to Machu Picchu in aid of Epilepsy Society.
