Dacorum Borough Council held its first Family Film Day of the summer in Hemel Hempstead town centre on August 3, when it screened Disney’s classic Beauty and the Beast on the new big-screen TV.

Sponsored by Enjoy Dacorum, a family film will be shown free of charge at 10.30am every Wednesday during August.

Families with young children gathered on the lawn to watch the first showing. Many had brought picnics with them as they settled down to watch the movie in the summer sunshine and soak up the atmosphere.

Today’s film is Shrek, next week’s offering is Minions, and Big Hero 6 is showing on Wednesday August 31.

Sue Lea, from Enjoy Dacorum, said: “It was wonderful watching the children enjoying themselves. Many of the parents came up to say thank you for this great way to keep the kids entertained over the summer, right on our doorstep in the town centre.”
