Christ Church Baptist in the Nap, Kings Langley

The 140th anniversary celebrations of the Baptist Church in Kings Langley are taking place over this weekend.

On the Saturday the church was open from 10.00 am - 4.00 pm when old records, photos and a power point presentation, depicting the life of the church over the years, will be on show.

Refreshments will be available all day.

The King’s Bookshop will also be open.

Work matters

Four years ago a group of Christians representing Sunnyside and Kings Road churches had a community based meeting and recognised that there was a need to help the unemployed and those with a desire to embark upon a new career.

Martin Fillippides, who leads the team, said: “The last course was very successful in helping those who attended so we have decided to run the programme again this year.”

The course, which will take place at Make Believe Cafe in Berkhamsted on Tuesdays March 17, 24 and 31 from 7.30-9.30pm, is called Work Matters and is open to all, completely free of charge.

It includes free tea and coffee and will be facilitated by, amongst others, an HR director, a barrister and an accountant.

Content of the free course will include: the job search (presenting yourself/networking); your legal rights; managing money; starting a business; the person (managing stress).

A different aspect of the programme will be covered on each evening, so participants are encouraged to attend all three sessions to gain the full benefit from the course.

Town centre youth club

Carey Baptist Church runs an open youth club each Friday during term time 7pm to 9pm.

All children aged 11-16 (years 7-11) are always welcome.

A confirmation service will be held on April 19 at 10.30am with Bishop Richard presiding.

The Christian Aid bowl of soup lunch will be held on March 6 from noon - 2pm in St John’s Hall. All are welcome.
