Christian Viewpoint
Jesus on religions that kill: “The time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God. They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me,” John 16:2. Jesus is preparing His disciples for when He is gone and says three things: 1 : Trouble is inevitable for His followers; 2: Shocking as it seems but the greatest antagonism will often come not from atheists but from sincere, zealous, religious people and will be done in God’s name. Even when “they kill you” they will think they are offering service to God. 3:Jesus tells His disciples these things not to crush them but to give them courage when trouble comes and not to be surprised. “To be forewarned is to be forearmed.” Jesus’ verdict: people can be profoundly deluded and religion can be an evil thing – Terry Fay, New Church, Hemel
