Special day for Sunrise Church

The congregation at Sunrise Church in Adeyfield reached out to its wider community with a family fun day held on Saturday, August 9.

Evangelical leader Lucy Dent said: “It went really well. It was an exciting day for the kids and families from our church.

“We want to be there for the community – our area in Adeyfield is a good community and it was nice that we had a big turnout of people asking what our church is about.

“Our church goes out beyond its four wells into society, and we give support and help if anybody needs it.

“This can be for anything, even if it is help with gardening or shopping.”

Reminder: A night at the opera at St Lawrence Church

Up and coming soprano Demelza Stafford will be singing favourite opera arias by Mozart, Wagnerand Puccini – along with some lighter works - in a concert this Bank Holiday week-end at St Lawrence Church, Bovingdon.

Demelza will be joined by bass baritone Daniel Grice and accompanist Mark Packwood who is on the staff of the Royal Opera House.

Tickets cost £10 in advance or £5 for under 18s from the church or from Lily Rose Florists, 90 High St, Bovingdon. All proceeds will be shared between St Lawrence Church and Demelza’s tuition fund.

Happy campers at all Saints Church Berkhamsted

Sunshine and showers characterised the All Saints Church Camping Weekend at Town Farm Ivinghoe. Overnight rain on Friday gave way to glorious sunshine on Saturday when a walk in the Ivinghoe Beacon area was followed by a pub lunch. The afternoon featured a scavenger hunt and a barbecue.

A dry night was followed by the tailend of Hurricane Bertha which brought a very enjoyable and lively weekend to a rather soggy conclusion but spirits were not dampened and thanks were expressed to organisers Tim and Jemima French.

Toay’s monthly Julian meeting provides an opportunity for half an hour of quiet prayer at 11.30 at 3 Sherwood Mews, Park St.

Chamber music for a summer evening at Flaunden

Local quarter Max Pitcher and The Chess Players will be performing ‘Chamber Music for a Summer Evening’ at Flaunden’s historic church at 6pm on Saturday 23rd August.

The mainly Mozart programme will include a selection of light classics with something for everyone.

Money raised will go to The Friends of Flaunden Church to pay for essential repairs to the Church of St. Mary Magdalene, Flaunden.

Entrance to the concert (which will last about an hour) is free of charge, but there will be a retiring collection. Visitors are invited to join the audience for a glass of wine after the performance. The church will full of beautiful floral decorations on the theme of ‘Poets, Prose and Psalms.’

Shakespeare said, “The pen is mightier than the sword” and he was right, and well qualified to say that – his words are still heard hundreds of years after his death. The Bible says that God’s word spoke the world into existence. The Word of God is Jesus. His words have power, might, and eternal life in them. Where can you hear them? In that very book, the Bible. Read from Matthew, Mark, Luke or John, allow Jesus’ word’s to penetrate your soul. Take them to your heart, and let him into your life, to begin an eternal friendship. Be blessed.
