A Hemel artist continues to prove that she has a face for success - even though that face doesn’t even need to be hers!
Because Juliet Eve has scooped the title Facepainter Of The Year after a competition which pitted her against hundreds of other facepainters from across the country.
The 59-year-old mum-of-two won three titles at the prestigious summit in Rochester, run by The International Face Painting Association (FACE).
In addition to the overall title she also scooped the Competition By Post, which was judged by photos submitted of painters’ work, and the 20-Minute Competition where each entrants had just 20 minutes to create something to a brief.
Juliet, who is based in Livingstone Walk, said: “Facepainting has really taken off over the years.
It’s particularly popular with women with children, who usually become aware of it when their children start at school.
“Or it can be make-up artists, it’s very popular in advertising.”
Juliet makes her living full-time from facepainting, teaching at colleges and being resident facepainter at Paradise Wildlife Park in Broxborne.
Each year during the February half-term, she organises the hugely successful face and body painting Paradise Jam at the zoo which is usually attended by more than 250 painters and their families.
And she also works at private events such as birthday parties, painting up to 15 children’s faces an hour.
Juliet took up facepainting in 1991, when she was asked to do some fund-raising for the National Childbirth Trust.
Since then she has branched out into related skills too, including bodypainting, temporary tattoos and henna decoration.
And Juliet is also a published author, with a deal agreed for her book The A-Z Of Animals.
She said: “Recognition like the FACE award really means a lot. It’s from the people who work in the industry and there is such a high standard.
“But I enjoy all areas of my work, and it is always fun to see young children getting their faces painted and being delighted with the result.”
