Chilfest was the brainchild of Steve Butcher, managing director of Universal Event Productions. He wanted to create a top quality outdoor music event of original 80s bands, as well as support Rennie Grove Hospice.

But what turned out to be the inaugural event was so hugely successful and popular that he was immediately persuaded to repeat the festival.
