The owner of a dog whose tail was bitten off when he was attacked by three other dogs is warning others to be aware of dangerous animals.
Katie Scott, 23, was devastated when she got the call to say her Pomeranian-cross Teddy had been been attacked outside her home in Berkhamsted.
Katie, who works at a recruitment firm in the town, said: “My mum was walking him for me when it happened, and she is distraught. She said Teddy was thrown up into the air like a rag doll but she couldn’t get to him.
“She was screaming but the dogs wouldn’t stop attacking.”
After a passer-by stopped to help, Teddy was rushed to the vet for emergency reconstruction surgery, but they were unable to save most of his tail.
A police investigation into the attack is ongoing, but Katie says she wants to warn other dog owners to be alert.
She said: “I wouldn’t want any other dog to go through what Teddy has been through.
“It’s really sad. He has been very unsettled since it happened and he’s usually such a happy dog. I feel nervous to take him out for a walk now in case it happens again but it’s not fair on him.”
Teddy has his dressings changed at the vets twice a week.
