The assault took place between Leighton Buzzard and Berkhamsted railway stations on a Southern trains service towards East Croydon on September 16.

CCTV images have today been released by the British Transport Police in the hope of tracking down the attacker, who launched a tirade of abuse towards the female attendant after refusing to show a valid ticket for the journey.

Investigating officer, PC Rob Hagan, said: “Between 3.25pm and 3.40pm, the train manager came across a male passenger who did not have a ticket for the journey and refused to pay for one.

“He then launched a tirade of verbal abuse towards the train manager, swearing repeatedly at her and making threats towards her. He left the train at Berkhamsted station but not before he launched another torrent of abuse towards the train manager.

“Although uninjured, the member of rail staff was left extremely shaken by the man’s behaviour.”

Enquiries into the verbal assault continue, and tranpsort police officers would like to speak to anyone who recognise the man pictured or knows of his whereabouts.
