The Redbourn in Bloom Horticultural Society has incorporated a VE Day/VJ Day theme for its entry in the 2015 Anglia In Bloom competition.
Redbourn in Bloom chairman Mike Thain said: “We have incorporated large blue V signs and banners into our flowerbeds along the High Street.
“And at the photographed bed, we have included a 1945 bike with gas masks, helmet and other Second World War memorabilia.
“The certificate held by one of our members, Mavis Clarry, was presented to her late husband who was serving in HMS Newfoundland, present at the time of the Japanese surrender.”
Anglia In Bloom forms part of the Royal Horticultural Society’s Britain in Bloom competition and covers the counties of Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk, and Suffolk.
Judging across the six counties takes place this month and the awards ceremony is in September.
