The heptathlon gold medallist visited youngsters taking part in her Gold Medal Academy being held at Basecamp at Berkhamsted School.

They spent time training with her before a question and answer session.

Denise said: “I’m excited to pass on my knowledge and help develop the Gold Medal Academy curriculum.”

The academy is just one of many sporting camps held for children at Basecamp during the summer holiday and is run in partnership with Activate Sport.

The golden girl of Sydney’s 2000 Olympic Games, is not the only sporting star to pay a visit.

London Welsh’s Tom May put children through their paces at one of the sport camps. He also joined forces with a mechanic from breakdown recovery firm Green Flag to carry out free car checks on vehicles belonging to parents.
