Dacorum girl becomes one of the newest doctors for Essex and Herts Air Ambulance Trust

Naomi Pritchard grew up in Northchurch, attending the village’s St Mary’s School before going to Berkhamsted’s Bridgewater School and then Ashlyns School, where she became head girl in 1989.

Her parents still live in Valley Road, Northchurch.

Naomi studied medicine at Bristol University and worked as a junior doctor in west England.

She then moved to London for specialist training as an anaesthetist, based at St Bartholomew’s Hospital and The Royal London Hospital.

She said: “I live in Wanstead, London, and I have just joined the EHAAT team as a pre-hospital care doctor.

“At home I enjoy baking, cooking and hosting dinner parties for friends.

“I love travelling, skiing, swimming, playing piano, and have two little nieces who keep me thoroughly entertained.

“Ever since my first clinical placement as a medical student in Bristol I have wanted to join the air ambulance team.

“My first ride in an ambulance was gripping - fast driving, brilliant camaraderie and not knowing what you will be faced with.

“I’ve always felt it is my job to come alongside patients during difficult or frightening times, and try to make their experience better than it would have been otherwise.

“I once had a baby named after me after anaesthetising a woman during a very problematic labour. I was so pleased and proud that the theatre team’s care and actions had made a difference and produced a happy ending.

“This job is not only a long held ambition, but I have the privilege of working with a fantastic, experienced and professional team and am extremely proud to work for the local air ambulance who safeguard my family and friends living in this region.”
