Dacorum does something funny for money! Your Red Nose Day pictures

The annual campaign and telethon this year raised more than £78million – its highest ever total for Red Nose Day – and schools and community groups from across Dacorum certainly played their part.

Children at Tring’s Grove Road Primary School raised money by coming to school with funny hair and funny faces, and donating £1 each.

Individual children also took the initiative and thought up their own fund-raising ideas. There was a sponsored silence and a quiz for teachers, for which the teachers had to donate to raise a total of £387.

The boys and staff at Lockers Park School in Hemel Hempstead raised over £300 by coming into school with crazy hair on Comic Relief day. Full use was made of dye, gel and wigs, although it was revealed some pupils were still looking a bit green around the edges the following day!

Many other schools around the borough also took part in the fun, helping rack up the pennies and the pounds for the very worthy cause. Aislyn and Kerrie Robins, aged seven and nine, thought up a wacky fancy dress idea as part of Tudor Primary School’s fundraising activities.

Care workers at The Lodge care home in Broad Street, Hemel Hempstead also got in the Red Nose Day spirit with a cake sale for the residents.

Fitness fanatics at HealthyU ladies’ gym in Bennetts End held a 30km sponsored cycle to raise money, as well as fancy dress Zumba and body conditioning classes.

Boys and the staff at Lockers Park School had a hair-raising time in aid of Comic Relief

Fitness company Fight 2 Fitness, based at the Collett School, also held a charity disco workout while classes were held in fancy dress, and all entrance fees were donated to Comic Relief. More than 30 people made the effort to dress up in some awesome outfits raising £120.

Hemel Hempstead’s two Sainsbury’s stores and Berkhamsted’s Oxfam shops have been kept busy satisfying demand for Red Noses, while customers at the town’s Tesco had the opportunity to buy this year’s novelty trolley tokens from Oxfam volunteers outside the store on the day.

In this landmark year, more than £1billion was reached across the whole of the established campaign, set up by comedians in the 1980s.
