A police officer who was based at Hemel Hempstead has been charged with a string of what are described as ‘serious offences’.

PC Leigh Brightman, 36, from North Herts, was charged today (Friday) with misconduct in public office, rape, making and possessing indecent images of a child and making and possessing a film featuring indecent images.

PC Brightman was arrested in August and suspended pending the outcome of the ‘fast-moving’ criminal investigation where specialist resources were deployed due to the seriousness of the offences.

The PC, who was also based at Watford, Rickmansworth and Hitchin during his time with Herts Police, was bailed to appear at Luton Magistrates Court on January 5.

An investigation is continuing and anyone with information is asked to contact Hertfordshire Constabulary on 01707 35 4884.
