Cranfield traffic experts warn of weekend road bottlenecks

TRAFFIC information gurus based in Cranfield in Bedfordshire are warning of an ‘exceptionally busy’ weekend on the roads.

Trafficmaster, in Martell House, University Way, says tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday and the following Sunday and Monday will see an exceptional number of leisure events, school holidays and good weather coincide to encourage us to hit the Tarmac.

The company uses live traffic information and real-time road speeds to calculate optimum routes with its Smartnav system.

Graham Smith, data manager at Trafficmaster, said: “The number of leisure events scheduled for the holiday week is quite exceptional, because many have been rescheduled this year to avoid clashing with Olympic events. Fortunately, the Olympic flame is ‘away’ in the Isle of Man and Northern Ireland for most of the holiday period!”

It is expected that roads throughout the country will be exceptionally busy during the afternoon and evening of Friday, June 1 and on Saturday, June 2 between 10am and 4pm. Trafficmaster says is likely the roads will be quieter during Sunday June 3 to Tuesday, June 5 and remain light from Wednesday to next Friday.

There is likely to be heavy traffic homeward bound on Sunday afternoon, June 10 and during the Monday morning peak, June 11.

Trafficmaster’s road hot-spots include the M1 from Junction 6A (M25 interchange) towards Junction 13 (Milton Keynes), especially through the widening roadworks section north of Junction 10 (Luton Airport).
