Community: Help For Heroes weekend raises £364,000

Organisers at forces support charity Help for Heroes have announced that they raised £364,000 in just three days in a successful fundraising challenge with Asda – and donations are still coming in!

Asda backed the huge fundraising drive over the August Bank Holiday weekend. Thousands of volunteers collected donations and sold Help for Heroes merchandise at over 260 Asda stores across England, Scotland and Wales.

Help for Heroes heard many wonderful stories from collecting teams around the country, and praise for the generosity of Asda shoppers and staff.

Julie Ward of Asda said, “We’re proud to be able to support such a great cause and want to say a huge thank you to our customers, who gave so generously over the Bank Holiday weekend.”

Bryn Parry, the Help for Heroes co-founder, added: “Help for Heroes wouldn’t be what it is without the support of the decent people who do their bit for our wounded servicemen and women – more than 2,500 people volunteered for this challenge.

“We are extremely grateful to ASDA for helping make this challenge such a huge success.

“The money raised is all used to provide direct, practical support to those wounded in the service of our country. We have already spent or allocated millions and we have a shopping list of future projects that will ensure they get the very best.

“We may not be able to prevent them from being hurt but we can certainly do our bit to help them get better.”
