The two-month initiative, which ran through June and July, saw officers from the Beds, Cambs and Herts Road Policing Unit target motorists driving under the influence of drink and drugs.

146 arrests were made, compared to 164 in the same period last year.

Roads policing inspector Phil Bloor said: “While it’s disappointing to see people continuing to get behind the wheel whilst under the influence, it’s encouraging to see that we are catching and arresting those putting themselves and others in danger.

“Any amount of drink or drugs in your system can affect your ability to drive and so we always encourage motorists to have none for the road.

“Although the campaign has come to an end, our focus on drink and drug-driving has not.”
