Charity: Have a cuppa to help migraine cause

Charity Migraine Action is drumming up support for its BIG Coffee Break and asking individuals, groups and businesses to hosting a fundraising coffee morning to help raise vital funds for the charity during Migraine Awareness Week, which takes place from Sunday, September 4 to Saturday, September 10.

The charity, which for 53 years has been offering information and advice to the one in seven people in the UK affected by debilitating migraines, is hoping for at least for 53 fundraising BIG Coffee Breaks to be held during the week.

Funds raised will help the charity to continue its wide-ranging activity which includes a telephone helpline, education days for migraineurs and healthcare professionals, workplace assessments to help employees with migraine, funding research and specialist migraine centres and running an information website and three age-specific websites for children.

Joanna Hamilton-Colclough, director of Migraine Action says: “Migraine is often overlooked but it is actually more common than diabetes, epilepsy and asthma combined and can have a devastating impact, not only the person affected but also on their family and friends.

“Migraine Action receives no Government funding and in these difficult financial times is in desperate need of support.

“By hosting a simple coffee morning at home, a get together with colleagues in the office, or running a bigger event in the community, you will be helping to make a huge difference to the lives of the eight million people with migraine in the UK. And whilst caffeine may be a trigger for some migraineurs, there is always decaf or a nice herbal tea to enjoy!”
