The prosecution comes after Dacorum Borough Council previously warned Mr Elliott on two occasions about unlawful signs.

Cllr Graham Sutton, portfolio holder for planning and regeneration, said: “The case highlights the council’s role in maintaining the borough’s appearance and making sure it a place we can all be proud of.

“Unlawfully sited adverts are unsightly and can cause a nuisance. This action demonstrates the robust approach taken by the council.

“We will not allow individuals or businesses to claim our public spaces for private gain and we will not hesitate to take appropriate action against illegal advertising, including prosecuting those who unlawfully site advertising boards and compromise the appearance of our borough.”
