Burglars attack woman in her own home before fleeing with hundreds of pounds of her money

A woman was attacked when two burglars broke into her rural home – before fleeing with hundreds of pounds of her money.

The offence took place on Thursday, August 14, at her detached house in the idyllic hamlet of Ringshall, which is on the edge of the Ashridge Estate.

Police, who have only just released the details of the crime, say she was assaulted when she disturbed the intruders at about 2.30pm.

The first of the two Ringshall burglars is described as white, aged in his late teens or early twenties, and was of slight build and around 5ft 5ins tall.

He had straight, short, mousey hair and a foreign accent. He was wearing shiny black tracksuit bottoms and dirty trainers.

The second man is described as white, aged in his late teens or early twenties, and was of stocky build and around 6ft tall.

He had mousey hair and a foreign accent. He had shiny black tracksuit bottoms, a black zip-up top and a blue or grey t-shirt. He had distinctive discoloured and wonky teeth.

It is believed the two men may have been seen prior to the burglary in company with another man and a dog. The dog is described as a Staffordshire bull terrier type with dark brown or black fur.

Det Con Paula Mowbray said: “Thankfully the victim was not seriously injured during this incident, but is understandably shaken and upset by what happened.

“This incident happened during the middle of the day in an area frequented by people attending the nearby golf course and Ashridge Estate.

“The descriptions provided are quite distinctive and I would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and remembers seeing any men as described or three men with a dog.

“Anyone who saw anything else unusual or suspicious around the time of the burglary should also contact me straight away via Hertfordshire Constabulary’s non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference D2/14/600.

“Alternatively call Crimestoppers, the independent charity, anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
