Sarah Williams-Gardener, 49, scaled the 5,895m-high Mount Kilimanjaro with husband Richard, 50, who she says was her ‘emotional rock’ throughout her cancer ordeal.

She said of her achievement: “It was amazing. It was tough – emotionally and physically – but I wanted to do it as a personal challenge.”

Sarah – who lives with Richard and their sons William, 13, and James, 12, in Potten End – was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer in December 2012 following a routine health screening.

She underwent a gruelling course of chemotherapy and a mastectomy before she was given the all clear last year, and now she and Richard have raised nearly £2,500 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer to ‘give something back’.
