Bread is bad but here are some kitchen leftovers you can feed to ducks

Alternatives to feeding ducks health damaging bread have been released by the Canal and River Trust.

The charity is on a mission to improve the health of wild birds and their habitats and is urging people to swap the traditional white bread for something healthier.

Now that the weather is heating up it is inevitable that families will partake in the popular pastime of feeding the ducks and the trust has revealed that every month the equivalent of 20 double decker bus fulls of bread are thrown into rivers and canals

The charity is urging people to leave the bread at home and instead take along one of these common dinner leftovers:

Tinned, defrosted or fresh sweetcorn.

Ripped up lettace.

Defrosted peas.

Rolled oats or instant porridge oats.

Seeds.

Leftover cooked rice.
