Cllr Allan Lawson cut the ribbon for the new refuse and recycling lorries, ahead of their maiden voyages when the changes to bin services begin in under a fortnight’s time.

The 14 vehicles feature key recycling messages on billboards, which were designed by school children and residents. A council spokesman said: “The billboard competition launched at the beginning of June was a great success with around 300 entrants from four schools.”

The new bins themselves have been delivered to Dacorum homes since the end of last month, and the new collection scheme launches on Monday, November 24.

The roll-out includes kerbside caddies for food waste and the blue-lidded wheely bins which will accept all forms of recyclables and cardboard. When the service changes, cardboard and food waste will no longer be accepted in green wheely bins.

The grey general waste bin and blue-lidded recycling bins will then be
collected fortnightly.

The green bins for garden waste only will also be collected fortnightly from February to November, and there will be a weekly collection of the kerbside caddy for food waste.

A collection calendar has been included with bin deliveries, and more information is available by visiting dacorum.gov.uk/recycling or calling 01442 228000 and asking for Waste Services.
