An oil painting of Ashridge Estate’s most famous tree is to be auctioned to raise money to help care for the National Trust’s veteran trees across the estate.
The breathtaking painting by local artist Angela Allway is of one of the most well-known trees at Ashridge.
The huge, pollarded beech starred in the Harry Potter films and Sleepy Hollow.
The painting shows the tree standing in all its glory, before it collapsed in a storm in 2014.
Entitled In Memory Of An Old Friend, the paintinghas been on display at the Ashridge Visitor Centre since last summer. A limited edition print run of the picture has been a success, with just six of the 25 prints remaining.
The original painting will form the centrepiece of a gala evening at Ashridge Golf Club at 7pm on Thursday February 18. Numbers 1, 2 and 3 from the limited print run will also be auctioned.
The evening includes a talk on the history of Ashridge, a look at how the veteran trees at Ashridge are managed today and a chance to meet the artist. Tickets are £15 from Ashridge Visitor Centre on 01442 851227.
