‘Avoid A&E strain by using alternatives’

The Herts Valley Clinical Commissioning Group is urging people to reduce strain on A&Es by utilising pharmacies and the NHS 111 number during the busy New Year period.

A spokesman for the group said: “As an expert in medicines and minor illnesses, your local pharmacist is a great source oftrusted advice on a wide range of issues. Whether it’s a cough or managing a long term condition such as asthma; pharmacists are highly trained and able to tell you if something needs more urgent medical attention from your GP, or even your local hospital.”

Many pharmacies are also open later during the holiday period – visit hertsvalleysccg.nhs.uk for more.

It is also the time to check if you need a repeat prescription to last into the New Year. Allow around four working days to ensure you don’t run out.

Dial NHS 111 when in need of health assistance and advice, and always call 999 in an emergency.
