Attempted assault on lone woman

A man has been arrested after an attempted sexual assault in Hemel.

The victim was walking along Thames Avenue at around 10.30pm on Friday, June 10, hen she became aware of someone following her.

She was then knocked to the floor from behind by a man who then allegedly attempted to sexually assault her.

The woman screamed and the man ran off as a member of the public came to the victim’s aid.

A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently on police bail while enquiries continue.

Detective Inspector Sally Phillips, from the sexual offences investigation team (SOIT), said: “Understandably the victim has been left shaken by her ordeal and we are continuing to provide her with specialist support.

“We fully appreciate that this incident may cause concern in the community and I would like to reassure people that a full investigation is being carried out.

“Patrols have been stepped up in the area and we are urging people to make sure they take steps to keep themselves safe while out and about.

“I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or saw someone acting suspiciously in the area around the time to please get in touch. We would also like to hear from anyone in the area who may have CCTV which could assist our enquiries.”
