Artists showcase at summer fayre

Among the many attractions at St Bartholomew’s annual summer fayre on Saturday, August 27, will be an exhibition of art.

Now in its tenth year, the fayre is a key event in the church’s calendar to raise funds for local charities and the upkeep of the 15th Century church - a church has stood on this site since the 11th Century.

The community of Wigginton has pulled together to make the event a success and key attractions include cakes and bakes courtesy of the Women’s Institute, aerial and static birds of prey displays, a miniature railway train ride, a barbecue and Pimms tent.

There will also be a fun dog show which anyone with a much loved pooch is encouraged to enter, a raffle with high value prizes donated by generous local businesses including Champneys, an opportunity to soak the vicar, as well as much more.

The Rev Michael Eggleton said: “Events like this are so important, not only to raise funds for our chosen charities, but for the community to come together to have fun.

“We are looking forward to an exciting programme of attractions at this year’s fayre and there’s something for everyone.”

This year the fayre, held in St Bartholomew’s Church grounds, is supporting local charities including Wigginton Pre-School, St Bartholomew’s Primary School, as well as international charity Tariro Hope for Youth in Zimbabwe.

Admission is free and there is plenty of parking reserved for visitors at the rec on Vicarage Road.

Gates open at 11am and the barbecue will start to be served at noon.

The final birds of prey display is at 3pm.
