An arson attack caused damage to the playing surface at Boxmoor Cricket Club over the weekend.

Bosses discovered the burnt-out shopping trolley on Monday morning.

A spokesman for the club said that they were saddened by the attack.

They added: “The Moor is a safe place for people of all ages to play, and watch cricket, and will remain so. Whilst anti-social behaviour has dropped drastically in the last few years, the club is still saddened by this mindless arson attack – and will be taking the necessary action.

“The club would like to appeal for anyone with any information on the incident to get in contact with the club, the Boxmoor Trust, or Herts Police on 101 as we are all working together to stop this happening again.”
