Homes have been evacuated after a suspected “explosive device” was found in an address opposite Astley Cooper School.
Police were called to an address in The Wye, Hemel Hempstead, at around 2.10pm, following reports that a suspected explosive device had been found in a cupboard.
A cordon has been put in place and a small number of nearby homes have been evacuated as a precaution.
The army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team has been called to assess the item.
It is understood that the device is an unexploded Second World War shell, and that students were not evacuated from their classrooms.
