The furniture expert, from Tring, will be at the Northbridge Road shop on Wednesday next week casting his trained eye over anything punters bring him.

This could include small furniture items, silver, metal, bronze, glassware, porcelain, ceramics, enamels, ivory, toys and more.

Shop manager Francesca Alden said: “If you’ve ever wondered if you’re sitting on any valuable treasures at home, maybe hidden away in the loft or tucked away at the back of a cupboard, now’s the time to dig them out!

“It’s open to all and people are invited to bring a maximum of two items per person, each to be valued by John on the night in return for a £5 donation to the hospice for each one.”

Since opening in September 2012, Returned to Glory has firmly established itself as a community hub.

It offers workshops and pop-up shops, promotes recycling and upcycling of furniture and helps boost the profile of Berkhamsted-based The Hospice of St Francis, which owns the shop.

The charity cares for people with life-shortening illnesses as well as their families and carers not just in the nearby area, but across Herts and Bucks.

Return to Glory recently won Berkhamsted & District Chamber of Commerce’s Berkhamsted Business of the Year Award, in recognition of its contribution to the community.

Refreshments, including wine, will be served at next Wednesday’s event, which will run from 5.30pm to 9pm at Returned to Glory, Northbridge Road, Berkhamsted, HP4 1EH.

Alternatively, call 01442 874356 for more information from the shop itself.
