Ambulance call-outs surge in Dacorum's hottest days of 2016

Ambulance crews saw their busiest days of the year last week, as surging temperatures meant that the number of call-outs increased by 22 per cent compared to last year.

The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust received 543 calls on Monday, July 18, and 505 the following day. This compared to 448 and 443 call-outs the same time last year.

The ambulance service is still urging people to think about which NHS service they need during this period. Remember that if you need medical help and it is not an emergency, please call 111, the NHS non-emergency help line which is open 24 hours a day or see your GP or pharmacist.

The service suggests the following tips to stay safe in the sun:

Wear loose, cool clothing, and a hat and sunglasses if you go outdoors;

Stay out of the sun between 11am and 3pm if you’ve vulnerable to the effects;

Drink cool drinks regularly such as water and avoid excess caffeine and alcohol;

Wear sun cream.
