There’s a chance for those who spend their time looking after others to enjoy a little pampering themselves next month.
Carers in Herts and Bucks are invited to a special Carers’ Pamper Afternoon in thebeautiful grounds of The Hospice of St Francis on Friday, June 12, from 2pm to 4.30pm.
Taking place during Carers Week, which runs from June 8 to 14, the Pamper Afternoon is free and open to all carers who support a relative or friend.
There’s a chance to enjoy treats like tea and cakes on the lawns, relaxation sessions, mini-manicures and a haircut, or browse the craft and gift stalls, while listening to the sound of live entertainment from The Jolly Jazzers.
Rachel, a carer who attended last year’s event, said: “Being surrounded by fellow carers at last year’s Pamper Day showed me that I wasn’t alone and helped me put my life into perspective.
“I really enjoyed the special event. It was so nice to be cared about!”
The Berkhamsted-based hospice supports over 100 carers from across the area offering workshops, courses and social groups, as well as respite support for carers through a volunteer visiting scheme.
A team of 25 volunteers spend time visiting patients, to read with them, help them use a computer or do activities, allowing their carers to go shopping, enjoy a hobby or meet friends and family.
The hospice is also running various courses for carers at its Spring Centre during the summer.
These include Caring with confidence, from June 1; First Aid on July 8; and Care Towards the End Of Life, from September 1 .
Carer support co-ordinator Claire Hewitt said: “Carers work so hard and deserve some pampering.
“We hope that finding an hour or two to come to our Pamper Afternoon will be relaxing and provide carers with some rejuvenating ‘me time’.
“Anyone who is caring for someone, under the care of the hospice or in the community, is welcome and can bring a patient, neighbour or friend.
“I’d also encourage carers to check out our Spring Centre programme to see if there are any forthcoming carers’ workshops they’d like to access”
To book any of the courses, contact the Spring Centre on 01442 869550, email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit: www.stfrancis.org.uk
