Two productions in one day
Two very different shows are performed at The Old Town Hall in Hemel Hempstead on Saturday - one during the day for children, and another in the evening for adults.
The interactive show for three to seven year olds, Albee Vector The Sound Collector is on at 11am.
In the evening, from 8pm, is Operation Crucible, an original play that tells the true story of four steelworkers in the Sheffield Home Front in 1940 who were trapped in the bombed Marples Hotel.
More than 500 people lost their lives in over seven hours of continuous bombing by Germany’s Luftwaffe on Decmber 12 1940.
The objective was to wipe Sheffield’s world famous steel works, the heartland of Britain’s munitions manufacturing, clean off the map.
The ruthless attack left Sheffield in ruins, destroying families, shattering a way of life and changing the city forever.
At 11.44pm on the night of the raid, a single bomb reduced the Marples Hotel, which stood proudly in Fitzalan Square, from seven storeys to just 15 feet of rubble.
Only one of 10 compartments in the hotel’s cellars withstood the blast. Within it, trapped, were four men. The play tells their story from beginning to end.
Tickets cost £14, £12, £10 and £5.
Earlier in the day the Greenlight Theatre present their smash hit children’s show. In a re-telling of The Odyssey, Albee travels to the end of the earth seeking the most beautiful sound in the world. Using a myriad of sounds from his collection, including a gurgling river, seaweed pixies and a badger in a bathtub, Albee and his friend recount their epic tale. Tickets £6 and £4.50.
