Dacorum Borough Council is encouraging residents to apply for the Green Homes Grant Voucher Scheme - the deadline has now been extended until March 2022.

The initiative helps make homes more energy efficient which can help people to save money on their bills - and it will reduce their carbon footprints too.

The grant funds up to two thirds of the cost of green home improvements for homeowners and landlords up to £5,000, or 100 per cent of the cost for those on low incomes up to £10,000.

Previously, work had to be completed by March 2021, but this has now been extended to the end of March 2022 meaning that even more people will be able to access this green scheme.

The UK government hopes that nationally the scheme will help around 600,000 households save up to £600 on their energy bills.

Vouchers must be used to install at least one primary home insulation or low carbon heating measure.

You can also use your voucher to help cover the cost of secondary measures. Measures covered include insulation of walls, floors and roofs, double or triple glazing when replacing single glazing, and low-carbon heating like heat pumps.

Leader of the Dacorum Borough Council, councillor Andrew Williams, said: “We want our residents to be happy and healthy in their homes this winter.

"By warming homes as efficiently as possible, householders can save money and drive down their carbon footprints, which is a crucial part of helping towards reducing the Climate Emergency.

"I urge those households that are applicable to take this opportunity as soon as possible.”

If you’re a tradesperson, make sure you’re eligible to carry out work under the scheme, which will support thousands of green jobs.

If the Green Homes Grant is not suitable for you, there is also other funding which may be available to help you improve the energy efficiency of your home.

Dacorum is working in partnership with YES Energy Solutions to make it easier for households to get the help they need with ECO funding.
