Construction of a new canalside housing development in Bourne End is on track to start after contracts were signed and completed for the purchase of the land.
Housebuilder Bellway has agreed to buy the 6.3-acre site off Pix Farm Lane, which is to be known as Westbrook Moorings, in tribute to the area’s mooring heritage and the nearby Westbrook mere which has been a popular fishing location in the area since 1927.

A total of 56 homes will be built, with 33 two, three and four-bedroom houses for private sale, and a mix of apartments and houses providing 23 affordable homes.
The new homes will be built as part of Bellway’s new Artisan Collection house type range. The homes within the Artisan Collection combine traditional craftmanship and attention to detail with the very latest construction techniques.
Westbrook Moorings will also include a landscaped village green alongside the canal to create new shared public open space.

Hide AdAli Maruf, managing director of Bellway North London, said: “Acquiring the land for this new site will mark Bellway’s fourth development in and around the Hemel Hempstead area, creating a legacy of high-quality housing in the area for years to come.
“Button House, off Pix Farm Lane, has long been needing redevelopment and we now have the chance to transform this brownfield site into a new canalside community of homes in the village of Bourne End, on the outskirts of Hemel Hempstead, and just two miles from affluent Berkhamsted.
“Residents at Westbrook Moorings will be able to walk the canal path to Berkhamsted, play a round of golf at one of the town’s courses, or enjoy visiting Berkhamsted castle.
“Bourne End, with its heritage in mooring, will be the ideal setting for family life in a rural location which benefits from riverside views and picturesque countryside in the village’s surrounding areas, yet within easy reach of both Berkhamsted and Hemel Hempstead.
