Hairspray comes to Milton Keynes

Last time around, the rather brilliant Brian Conley took on the bubbly, larger than life role of Edna Turnblad, and this time Mark Benton will be doing the honours.

Mark will be familiar to viewers of Waterloo Road, but then his other primary roles include stints in The Street, Land Girls and you’ll have definitely seen him in those Nationwide adverts from a while back, but – before now – you’ve probably never seen him play anything like the rather unique Edna!

Scheming TV executive Velma Von Tussle is being brought to life by former Eastender Lucy Benjamin, and 2011 X Factor finalist Mark Collins is making his theatre debut as Seaweed Stubbs.

It’s a proficient cast, and a simply cracking story: The year is 1962 and there is a change in the air.

Baltimore’s Tracy Turnblad is a big girl with big hair, an even bigger heart and an uncontrollable passion for dancing.

When she wins a spot on a dance programme she goes from outsider to teen celebrity, almost in the blink of an eye.
