A group of motorcycle riders from Dacorum are gearing up to deliver presents to patients in hospital this Christmas.

Dacorum Motorcycle Riders, dressed up in Santa suits, plan to deliver presents from Monks Inn in Hemel Hempstead to Watford General Hospital on Saturday, December 18, - but they are calling on the public to donate gifts.

The group is asking for donations of toiletries, games, books, pens, socks, sweets, pyjamas and any new born or baby clothes. Donations can be dropped off at Monks Inn, The Square.

Jon Andrews, from Dacorum Motorcycle Riders, said: "We are appealing for the public's support to make this Christmas present run amazing for the patients in hospital.

"Thank you to everyone that has donated and if anyone would like to donate, please contact me on 07469983634 or visit the Monks Inn in Hemel.

"Clint Whitaker and Kirsty Derham at Monks Inn have been amazing with their support for this project.

"We are doing this to show our love for people who are stuck in hospital at Christmas.

"Hopefully the presents will put a smile on their faces."

If you are unable to donate a gift to the riders but would still like to support the campaign, you can make a donation to the charity's Raise A Smile appeal here.

The Raise A Smile campaign will help the West Hertfordshire Hospital NHS Trust's charity team to buy a selection of gifts so patients know that well-wishers are thinking of them

Charity director, Sofia Sheikh, said: “Christmas is a wonderful time of year and, as we all continue to battle with COVID 19, we have never been in more need of kindness and good will.

"The Dacorum Motorcycle Riders are being so amazing in collecting gifts for our patients. But if readers can’t give a gift to the riders, perhaps they would consider making a donation to our ‘Raise a Smile’ appeal instead.

“With donations from kind well-wishers, the charity team can buy a selection of gifts so patients know someone is thinking of them.

"This is particularly important for those who don’t have many visits from friends and family.

"We’re determined that patients don’t miss out on the spirit of the season simply because they are in hospital.

"Please be assured that we will spend all donations wisely and bring joy to patients in hospital this festive season.

"We know times are difficult for many at the moment, but any donations the public can make will make such a difference. Thank you so much.”

In previous years, kind-hearted members of the public have brought presents into the hospital, but with frequently-changing COVID control measures in place, that is much more difficult this year.

So the charity is asking for donations, so it can buy gifts for patients instead.
