Lidl in urgent food recall over liver cancer fears, Hemel Hempstead shoppers told
Kania Oregano is being pulled off the shelves due to possible high levels of pyrrolizidine alkaloids
In a statement with Trading Standards and the Food Standards Agency, the store said: "Lidl GB is recalling Kania Oregano due to the possible presence of high levels of pyrrolizidine alkaloids. Pyrrolizidine alkaloids are naturally occurring; however, prolonged consumption of high levels can lead to liver disease."
It affects the 7.5g jar, batch code 9163BE, with a best before date on June 2022.
The statement goes on: "If you have bought any of the above product do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.
"Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product."
No other Kania products are affected. If you have any concerns, you should call Lidl's customer services on 0370 444 1234.
